Classics Incorporated has announced an addition of a new member to their team. Kenny Sanderson, an Indiana native with an extensive background in leaded art glass has been training under Matt Nelson the past two and a half years, learning the art of comic book restoration. "Kenny has proven to be very adept at restoring comic books, thanks to an art background that requires attention to detail," says Nelson. "He's impressed me with how fast he has picked up on the techniques, and especially the enthusiasm and dedication he's expressed along the way. At this point I feel confident that Kenny is ready to join our team. It's very exciting to see this come to fruition after all the hard work he has put in."
In addition to restoring comic books, Sanderson will provide valuable feedback for collectors who have potential restoration candidates. Nelson points out that "Kenny's presence on the CGC message boards will allow him to answer many questions regarding restoration. He has learned not only how to restore comics, but also when not to restore them. There is a delicate balance between the value of a comic, the cost of restoration, and what we can achieve with our process." Collectors can still submit inquiries through classicsincorporated.com as well.
Nelson and Sanderson are currently working on new restoration techniques that will significantly change the way comic books are restored. "Since my training with Bill Sarrill 12 years ago, my restoration techniques have continually evolved," Nelson remarks, " but these new ideas will be a quantum leap forward. It's still a work-in-progress, but we're making excellent headway, and we hope to incorporate them into our process sometime in 2009. Announcements will be forthcoming."
