According to Variety, Warner Bros. (WB) has just penned a three-year, first-look deal with Callahan Filmworks partners, Peter Segal and Michael Ewing. Included in this deal, WB also acquired the John August-scripted Captain Marvel from New Line Cinema.
Segal, who most recent work includes directing last summer’s Get Smart, will direct the DC Comics adaptation at WB as part of the studios DC Universe film plans. The film will tell the story of young Billy Batson, who is transformed into Caption Marvel and granted the powers of six different gods when is says the magic word, “Shazam.”
The first-look deal comes for Segal and Ewing as the pair prepare to work on a sequel to Get Smart for WB, with Segal directing and Ewing, presumably, producing. Ewing was one of the producers of the first film, along with Chuck Roven, Alex Gartner and Andrew Lazar, while Segal was also attached as executive producer.
