On May 3, comic book shops across the nation will hand out more than 2 million comic books at no cost as a part of Free Comic Book Day 2008 (FCBD08), and they will once again do so with the admiration and respect of the United States House of Representatives!
Representative C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger of Maryland will introduce a new resolution into the House, which supports the annual industry event. Once the resolution is passed, FCBD 08 will be congratulated and commended for its creative approach to promoting literacy and celebrating the unique American art form.
“It is particularly gratifying to have the United States House of Representatives recognize such an important industry event, as well as the literary merits of the medium,” said Free Comic Book Day Spokesperson Elissa Lynch. “The vendors, retailers and Diamond staff have all worked very hard to put together Free Comic Book Day. We’re all very excited by this announcement!”
Now in its seventh year, FCBD is a celebration of an international art form and the literacy that comics encourage. The event salutes the medium's energy and boundless creativity, and drives new readers into their local comic shops. For more information, visit www.freecomicbookday.com.
