Iron Man is hot in the theaters and just as hot in the comics according to Doug Schmell, President and CEO of Pedigree Comics, Inc. A high grade, CGC certified 9.2 copy of Tales of Suspense #39, which features the first appearance and origin of Iron Man just sold for $35,000 on the Pedigree Comics website. The sale constitutes a record price for a 9.2 certified copy of the book which cover is dated March 1963, the same month that Amazing Spider-Man #1 hit the newsstands. The last sale of a near mint- condition was in August of 2007 by Pedigree Comics and realized $25,000.

The book is one of only 12 copies to receive a certified 9.2 grade by the experts at CGC. As of May 1, 2008, only three copies have received a 9.4 grade and only two have been certified 9.6 out of over 600 total copies submitted to CGC for certification. The 9.2 copy had off-white pages and a virtually flawless cover. Mr. Schmell also noted that the book was very tightly graded and was easily the nicest 9.2 copy he has seen of this key comic. Prices of high-grade copies of the comic have seen incredible surges of late. A CGC certified 9.0 copy recently brought $27,000 at auction, nearly doubling the highest sale of $14,000 established in February, 2007.
