CPG proudly announces that we are starting a foundation to help local charities, organizations, and people in need help. Our goals are very simple. We will unite creators, companies, businesses and do this together. CPG will be using all its resources to raise money for those in need and all the while endeavor to show those around us, just what our world is really all about. Great people with great hearts...and yes we love Comics

Some 14 years ago Comics Price Guide (CPG) started as a tribute to a friend and with the hopes to help unite collectors, fans, and all of us that enjoy what we have to come to love...Comic Books.

For so many years we the readers, the collectors have all held a strong unity with one another, but sometimes those around us have never shared our enjoyment of this art we call comics. Comics have many times been a way to escape reality, see a different side of the world, or for just plain fun. We have all at one time found ourselves lost in this magical world of print and art and this love never ends.

Over the years we have been involved with and helped organizations, conventions, individuals, and others in need thru charity work or simple publicity. We have seen the over whelming response from the creative community come together and help those in need and never asking for anything in return. We at CPG feel its time to pay this forward.

We at CPG have enjoyed fantastic growth these last many years and we want to do our share to help all we can. Why? Because it is simply the right thing to do and maybe, just maybe while helping we can show the world a new side to this world of entertainment. This world of fantasy.. the world we love. Together we can accomplish anything, together we can help those in need. How can this be anything but a good thing?

We would like to introduce everyone to one of the charities we will be helping. They are Special Spaces (Specialspaces.org). This is one of the most unique and caring ideas we have seen for critically ill children. Special Spaces discovers what the child enjoys, what their hobbies are and they then build a room designed specifically for the child. It is an oasis or escape from so many of the life challenges these kids endure almost daily. It’s their Special Space. We hope to help these kids right away and as often as possible.

Special Spaces was featured on ABC's inaugural show Secret Millionaire. They have now grown to over 17 chapters across the country but are still grass roots. Each chapter is run by people, not committees. If you know any children in need of help please contact them.

Fresh on the heels of the highly-publicized, record-breaking $317,200 auction sale for a rare copy of Action Comics #1 - the ensuing news that spread across the globe has made the unbelievable happen:

Another original-owner copy of Action Comics #1 has been found that has never been brought to market.

"It's simply unheard of these days for undiscovered copies of Action Comics #1 to surface," stated Stephen Fishler, CEO of the comic book auction company, ComicConnect.com.

"Due to all the press surrounding last month's sale [the most a comic book has ever sold for at auction], we received thousands of calls and emails from people who had reprints that they thought were original.  One of those calls stood out among the rest - and suddenly we realized the unthinkable has happened and lightning has struck twice."

"An older gentleman called from the Midwest regarding a comic book he and his brother, as young boys, purchased off the newsstand in 1938," added Vincent Zurzolo, ComicConnect.com's COO. "Sadly, his brother passed away last autumn, but the two had kept the comic for over 70 years. The man has decided to bring the comic book to market by consigning it to ComicConnect's current Event Auction, which is accepting bids and ends on Friday, May 1st ."

The Action Comics #1 is graded CGC 1.8 unrestored, and may be viewed from this link.

When the surviving brother first heard about the previous sale, he had no idea where the comic had been kept.  After spending two weeks searching his brother's house and looking into safety deposit boxes, he finally found it hidden somewhere among his brother's stored belongings.

Heritage Auction Galleries' latest auction of rare comic books and original comic book art realized $3,987,557 for 1,111 lots offered, although after auction sales are still ongoing, and are expected to raise the final total to even higher levels.

"As can easily be seen by looking at the top results, this auction was about two things: original art and Mile High comics," said Ed Jaster, Vice-President for Dallas-based Heritage. "The entire spectrum of original art collecting was represented here, from Charles Schulz's wholesome, All-American Peanuts strips to the underground greatness of Robert Crumb, and virtually everything in between."

"The Peanuts Sunday dated 9-8-57 represents the second time we've cracked six figures for one of these iconic pieces," Jaster said, "and the highly desirable page from X-Men #1, featuring the very first appearance of the X-Men's arch-foe Magneto, which brought $53,775, marks our highest result ever for a single Silver Age page. The Robert Crumb pages from Big Ass Comics #1 performed far above expectations as well, averaging an impressive $17,000 per page, with top honors going to Page 1 of "All Meat Comics," which brought $77,675 all on its own."

"Also offered in this auction were the Mile High copies of Flash Comics #2-24 and #60," Jaster said, "some of the most hotly desired books from the Gold Age of Comics. We offered the remainder of the run in a previous auction, and were proud to bring these beauties to the collecting public. Residing at the very top of the CGC Census, these exceptional books inspired spirited bidding. All told, the impressive run offered in this auction brought a whopping $553,583."

Jaster continued, "Another important part of this auction was the Don Vernon collection, containing comics, original art, and more. Don was a passionate collector of comics, comic art, memorabilia, Big Little Books - literally, anything that brought back memories of his childhood - who passed away recently. We're proud to have been able to memorialize his efforts and present his material to the collecting world. Don's labor of love brought $784,744 in total, including $47,800 for his Carl Barks Uncle Scrooge painting, and a total of $74,090 for the three consecutive Prince Valiant Sunday strips. As impressive as this offering was, there's still quite a lot from the Don Vernon Collection yet to be offered, so those who appreciate the efforts of this dedicated collector should keep their eyes on future auctions."

"We're actively working on putting our next exciting auction together," Jaster said, "and I'd invite all my fellow pop culture enthusiasts to keep an eye on our website at http://www.ha.com/ to watch the auction as it grows."

Heritage's next Vintage Comic and Comic Art Signature auction will be held November 13-14, 2008, in Dallas, Texas. For more information, please visit http://www.ha.com/.

Prospective consignors and sellers of Comics and Comic Art are invited to www.HA.com/Sell. Or simply email Ed Jaster at EdJ@HA.com, or call 1-800-872-6467, ext. 1288.

To reserve your copy of any Heritage auction catalog, please contact Client Services at 1-800-872-6467, ext. 1150, or visit www.HA.com/Catalog to order by email.
