Here is just a small sample of other comic book and original art highlights within this blockuster auction:

  • The Collection of Bill Milano: We are proud to present to our bidders a collection of 63 key comic books from the Bill Milano collection.  In 1990, Bill fell in love with the comic book genre and with the purchase of his first copy of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, he also became aware that comic books were well worth investing in.  He  had a great eye for key and high-grade material and picked off the stuff whenever he could.  Bill never did get into reading the new comics, but if it was old, scarce, and a key issue, Bill was interested!  Now, 18 years later, Bill has decided that he's going to turn a small batch of books in for a Ferrari -- not too shabby, Bill!

  • Incredible, Ultra high-grade Amazing Spider-Man examples:
    This is one of the best Amazing Spider-Man offerings that we have ever had the opportunity to present to our bidders.  Some of the breathtaking highlights include: Amazing Spider-Man #6, #8, #9, #12, #18, #19, #26, #19, #32, #33, #35, #38, #39, #42, #44, #45, #49, #52, #56, #61, #69, #73, #74, #75, #80, #86, #89, #93 and others all in CGC 9.6.  And, #19, #56, , #57, #59, #60, #62, #64, #65, #77, #88, #97, #122, #123, #125, #135, #136, #138, and #163 in CGC 9.8.

  • Some "Incredible" original art Hulk pages that have not seen the light of day in years, including Origin and Transformation pages from issue #4, by Jack Kirby and from issue #102 by Marie Severin, as well as a fantastic Steve Ditko page from issue #6.  Also a moody Kirby page where Hulk crosses over into Eternals #15.  Another great Kirby piece in the auction is ultimate Jack Kirby monster cover (recreation) Strange Tales #89 (FIN FANG FOOM!).
  • Many more highlights are in this auction!
If you would like to sell in an upcoming ComicLink auction, simply e-mail your list to buysell@comiclink.com or contact Douglas Gillock, Tomis Erb or Josh Nathanson at 718-246-0300.  If you are new to ComicLink, we also suggest you explore buying and selling on the Comic Book Exchange (where there are over 13,000 vintage CGC Graded comic books available), and the Comic Art Exchange where there is a wide selection of comic book art and frequent updates.  Registered sellers can list items in these sections at any time, and record-breaking prices are commonly realized.

A major run of mostly CGC certified 9.6 and 9.8 copies of Sub-Mariner comprising of over 40 issues between #1 and #72 will be listed this weekend. The books will be featured in the New Arrivals section of the Pedigree Comics website. "These books are just killer with almost everyone of them being the highest certified copies on the CGC Census," said Doug Schmell CEO of Pedigree Comics. The offering includes 16 comics that are graded 9.8 including the first two issues of Sub-Mariner. There are 22 books that are certified 9.6 and five comics graded 9.4 in the run of 43 books offered. The books also include several pedigree copies mostly from the Oakland and Don Rosa collections. The books also exhibit superior page quality as 30 books from the offering have snow white pages. According to Mr. Schmell the copy of Sub-Mariner #1 offered is one of the finest he has ever seen as it has snow white pages and no Marvel Chipping or tears.

This is the second incredible run of popular late 1960s to early 1970s title to be featured on Pedigree Comics within the past three months. According to Mr. Schmell this group constitutes the best run of Sub-Mariner comics ever to be offered publicly for sale. If this Sub-Mariner run were added to the CGC Registry, it would likely become the #1 ranked set given the number of 9.8 certified comics.

The first portion of the run featuring Sub-Mariner #1-15 will be available today with the remaining books from the run being launched on the website on Saturday and Sunday. All 43 comics will be available to buy and bid on as none will be sold prior to the listings on the site. To view the books being offered visit http://www.pedigreecomics.com/. If you have any questions or comments or would like additional details you can contact Pedigree CEO Doug Schmell at 561-422-1120 or 561-596-9111 or via email at DougSchmell@pedigreecomics.com.

Classics Incorporated has just announced the launch of their new interactive website. The system allows clients to create their own work orders when submitting books, with email updates sent throughout the process. New services are being introduced as well, including the exPress, which offers a two week turn time on pressings.

"This has been part of an evolution we've been going through the past six months," said Matt Nelson, president of Classics Inc. "As the business progresses, we're getting a feel for our clients expectations, and figuring how we can meet and exceed those expectations." Nelson said to expect more changes in the coming months. "We're constantly working to evolve our techniques. There are some new developments in the works that we believe will considerably improve the services we offer."

For their pressing service Classics Inc. is rolling back the Modern tier cutoff from 1980 to 1975. "There's so many great books in that five year period, and we felt that it was a great area to expand by saving our clients $10 per book. " said Nelson. In addition, Classics Inc. has also rolled back their Bronze Age tier by five years, from 1970 to 1965.

Another change of note is the Proscreen service, which is now optional for the client. A fee of $3 will be applied to all books Proscreened, unless the option is waived. "Waiving the Proscreen is for our more experienced clients who are now comfortable with their own screening ability. Not only does it save them money, but it cuts down on the turn time," said Nelson. The Proscreen service provides a restoration check and estimated grade after pressing. "For submitters of Modern tier books this is the best deal. By waving the Proscreen, their cost is only $12 per book, the lowest we've ever offered for a pressing," said Nelson. Classics Inc. is also offering free Proscreens for all comic book valued over $4,000.

Matt Nelson and Richard Evans will be set up at the Baltimore Comic-Con the weekend of September 27-28, 2008 doing on-site proscreens. He and Richard Evans of Bedrock City will also be conducting their restoration seminar at the show. For more information, please visit http://www.classicsincorporated.com/ or email Matt Nelson at comics@classicsincorporated.com.

General | Industry Announcements

Heritage Auction Galleries' latest auction of rare comic books and original comic book art realized $3,987,557 for 1,111 lots offered, although after auction sales are still ongoing, and are expected to raise the final total to even higher levels.

"As can easily be seen by looking at the top results, this auction was about two things: original art and Mile High comics," said Ed Jaster, Vice-President for Dallas-based Heritage. "The entire spectrum of original art collecting was represented here, from Charles Schulz's wholesome, All-American Peanuts strips to the underground greatness of Robert Crumb, and virtually everything in between."

"The Peanuts Sunday dated 9-8-57 represents the second time we've cracked six figures for one of these iconic pieces," Jaster said, "and the highly desirable page from X-Men #1, featuring the very first appearance of the X-Men's arch-foe Magneto, which brought $53,775, marks our highest result ever for a single Silver Age page. The Robert Crumb pages from Big Ass Comics #1 performed far above expectations as well, averaging an impressive $17,000 per page, with top honors going to Page 1 of "All Meat Comics," which brought $77,675 all on its own."

"Also offered in this auction were the Mile High copies of Flash Comics #2-24 and #60," Jaster said, "some of the most hotly desired books from the Gold Age of Comics. We offered the remainder of the run in a previous auction, and were proud to bring these beauties to the collecting public. Residing at the very top of the CGC Census, these exceptional books inspired spirited bidding. All told, the impressive run offered in this auction brought a whopping $553,583."

Jaster continued, "Another important part of this auction was the Don Vernon collection, containing comics, original art, and more. Don was a passionate collector of comics, comic art, memorabilia, Big Little Books - literally, anything that brought back memories of his childhood - who passed away recently. We're proud to have been able to memorialize his efforts and present his material to the collecting world. Don's labor of love brought $784,744 in total, including $47,800 for his Carl Barks Uncle Scrooge painting, and a total of $74,090 for the three consecutive Prince Valiant Sunday strips. As impressive as this offering was, there's still quite a lot from the Don Vernon Collection yet to be offered, so those who appreciate the efforts of this dedicated collector should keep their eyes on future auctions."

"We're actively working on putting our next exciting auction together," Jaster said, "and I'd invite all my fellow pop culture enthusiasts to keep an eye on our website at http://www.ha.com/ to watch the auction as it grows."

Heritage's next Vintage Comic and Comic Art Signature auction will be held November 13-14, 2008, in Dallas, Texas. For more information, please visit http://www.ha.com/.

Prospective consignors and sellers of Comics and Comic Art are invited to www.HA.com/Sell. Or simply email Ed Jaster at EdJ@HA.com, or call 1-800-872-6467, ext. 1288.

To reserve your copy of any Heritage auction catalog, please contact Client Services at 1-800-872-6467, ext. 1150, or visit www.HA.com/Catalog to order by email.
